Don't know that I'll use this much, but interesting. It made me wonder what Shift and Option each do separately with a sound volume key. Shift temporarily reverses the setting of the feedback blip sound. Option opens the Sound Preferences pane! Both useful!

Callie: How old's the MacBook? I'm wondering if it's hardware or software keeping it from working. If you don't have the little symbols on your F keys like the ones in the picture (tho I thought all MacBooks had them, even if in different spots - mine are on F3 and F4), then I can't imagine that it would work. I don't know when the capability became available, OS-wise, but it works in Leopard and Snow Leopard.

Hey, Mike, sorry for reply delay - I'm usually here much more often; I've been buried in book projects, and my orphan child blog was neglected.

I received a note from someone else about the problem, too - can't figure out how/why it happened, as it's perfectly openable on many other machines (I tested, friends tested!) for both Preview and Reader. However, I re-compiled the PDF from InDesigned and put that up, and the other person said the new copy worked fine.

So, please try again and let me know if it still doesn't work for you.

Cheers back atcha.

Dear Sharon,

Your Leopard Sampler is unopenable after being downloaded.
I tried it several times, with both Apple's Preview app, and with
Adobe's Acrobat Reader, & Acrobat, itself. I even tried removing
the first period from the file name, before opening it, in case the
OS was trying to read everything after it, as a file extension that
it could not recognize. I liked your style of writing, while reading
your Time Machine sample pages --- nicely done ! Cheers.

You're welcome. Unfortunately, I'm finding I have to use this tip about once a week when I've been giving the Spotlight menu a real workout (I'm working on a Spotlight ebook, sporadically, between other projects). It seems to just get tired from overuse! (And this has been the case thru several revs of 10.5!

Thank you. It was nearly impossible finding the solution to this problem until I found you. Again, thank you.

Hello Dr. Zardetto,

It's me... one of your font patients here!

Just wanted you to know that I shared your "missing date" pet peeve for years! Was reluctant at first to try your 'fix', but my curiosity won out, and YOUR FIX WORKS!
Thank You!!!

Sure - as I read your first 2 sentences, I was thinking "well, there's the assign-an-obscure-combo approach" but of course you tried that.
No, no user way to do that. I'd use QuicKeys to assign the existing shortcuts to something "redundant" like "Go to Finder" if I wanted to wipe them out. But, as you probably know, I'm a keyboard junkie, so I may add or alter shortcuts, but I hardly ever want to just get rid of any.

I will, however, look around re this because there must be enough people who want this that someone's made a utility to meet the need...
